Dark Light

Early life and background

Life/art works description

When I found myself in New York twenty years ago, I intensely came into contact with Fluxus, which became an inspiration for Pofick's art. The NYC art scene fascinated, tempted, but did not involve me. I returned to Lithuania. However, deep down I always felt a tendency towards painting, a desire to find my own style, to try to realize my thoughts, fantasies and desires. I realized that art and business have a lot in common, that these two worlds are not different, but much closer than it might seem at first glance. In both business and art, we must fantasize, create, experiment, and strive for new forms and ideas. We must have our own style and be original. Otherwise, few people will be interested in us. So one day I just took a blank canvas and started applying paint. In my own way, fantasizing, looking for answers, although often the process of searching for them is much more interesting than the desire to find those answers. I still do this today. I was hooked, involved, fascinated, and the further I go, the more I like this path. A path of search, fantasy, and creativity. Not only in business, but also in art, which was my first love and passion.

My inner movement, born in NYC on February 24, 2003, which I named Pofick, has now taken shape and meaning. I said to myself – if there is Fluxus, why can’t there be Pofick? Pofick not only in art, but also in other artistic fields, even in worldview and way of life.

A good friend called my painting style fractal painting. Maybe she's right, but I don't have an answer to this question. After all, I'm much more interested in the process than in an exact and specific answer. I call that process painting, although painters don't want to accept me into their ranks, saying that I smear everything too much. That's why I'm somewhere in the middle - between art and business. I'm looking for new forms and shapes.

“Martynas Ivinskas is not too concerned with form or means. This artist – let’s call him a pofick artist without any pretensions – usually imagines and objects his reality simply with what he has at hand at that moment. In this way, painterly figures are born on the jute of coffee bags, and on various maps – people and musical instruments, which in their own way repeat, articulate and highlight lines visible only to him, city vectors and trajectories, along which we can happily wander. And even more – objects that are neither sculptures, nor collages, nor painting, nor everyday life. This time, for the viewer’s eyes – but the reality of scattered things and fragments. Harmonious and chaotic, strung and objectified in their own way. Pofick in their own way.” Paulius Garbačiauskas
